Co-operation

The GSC co-operates with the Bank of Guyana pursuant to Section 19 of the Securities Industry Act, 1998 which provides that the GSC shall consult and co-operate with the Bank of Guyana or any other agency that exercises regulatory authority under a written law over a financial institution, insurance company or other body in order to minimize duplication of effort and to maximize the protection of investors.

Section 19 of the Securities Industry Act, 1998 further provides for the GSC to co-operate with an agency of a foreign government in connection with the investigation of a contravention of this Act or any similar written law whether the activities in question occurred in or outside of Guyana. Section 19 of the Securities Industry Act, 1998 also allows the GSC to co-operate in the work of national, regional, or international organisations dealing with the regulation of the securities markets.

The GSC co-operates and works along with the Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators’ (CGSR) and the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) established by the CARICOM. The GSC also co-operates with the International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO), as a non-member and regional and international securities regulators.

The GSC and the Financial Intelligence Unit and other similar agencies also collaborate and share information in accordance with Section 9 and Section 18 (2) (c), (f) and (g) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Act, 2009 and Amendments thereto.
